Think Tobacco is only bad for smokers? Think again. Whether you are smoker or not, Tobacco is impacting your health and the future of our planet from seed to stub to decay. There’s far more to tobacco than you think. Every year, six trillion cigarettes are sold to 1.1 billion smokers. This means that every year over 200000 hectares of forests are flattened to grow and cure tobacco leaves. That’s equivalent to 49400 football fields. For every 15 boxes of cigarettes sold, one tree is chopped down. Cigarette production contributes towards global warming with almost 84 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually. This is nearly as much as some countries’ entire annual emissions.
- chop sth down: 砍倒
